Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about splitting bills with KalQSplit.

Do the people I split bills with need to create an account?

No. Whoever starts a group or logs an expense needs a free KalQSplit account, but everyone else can join as a guest by following an invite link or entering an invite code — no signup, no password, no app download required.

How does receipt scanning work?

Snap a photo of a receipt and KalQSplit's AI reads the line items, tax, and tip, then pre-fills an expense for you to review and adjust before saving. Nothing is finalized automatically — you always confirm it first.

What ways can I split an expense?

Evenly, by exact dollar amount, by percentage, or by share (e.g. someone who ate double gets 2 shares) — whichever fits how the bill actually broke down.

Does KalQSplit process payments or move money?

No. KalQSplit calculates who owes whom and tracks whether a debt has been marked as paid, but it never processes a real transaction. You settle up however you'd normally pay a friend back (cash, Venmo, PayPal, etc.) and then mark it as paid in the app.

Can I use KalQSplit for a trip with lots of shared expenses?

Yes — Trips let you group a whole vacation's worth of expenses together, scan a multi-leg itinerary at once, and see a running balance for everyone involved, separate from your regular ongoing groups.

What happens once everyone settles up?

The person owed money can self-confirm they were paid, or the payer can mark a debt as paid and the recipient can confirm it — either way, KalQSplit keeps an audit trail of who confirmed what and when.

Is KalQSplit free?

Yes, the core features are free. A Pro tier removes ads and raises the daily receipt-scan limit. See the Pricing page for details.
